UNION's STARTING XI v. CHICAGO: SOUMARE MAKING HIS DEBUT

(Times/COLIN KERRIGAN)
Here's John Hackworth's lineup tonight against the visiting Chicago Fire:

GK ... MacMath
DF ... Williams, Soumare, Okugo, Gaddis
MF ... Carroll, M Farfan, G Farfan
FW ... Daniel, Hoffman, Adu

Bench: Harrison, Lahoud, Hoppenot, Pajoy, Martinez, Albright, Pfeffer.

Just a few notes about the 18:
  • Soumare to debut. Finally --- Bakary Soumare will make his debut with the Union, with whom he signed in June. Hackworth had been saying Soumare, a centerback, was inching toward being game fit. Now's the time.
  • Wearing the armband. Brian Carroll will serve as the Union's captain, in the absence of Carlos Valdes, who's on international duty.
  • Hoffman's back. Rookie Chandler Hoffman will be in the 11 against the Fire, marking his first appearance since June 16. The first-round pick (pictured) broke a toe in training June 23 and had been sidelined since.
  • Daniel is still here. Keon Daniel has yet to travel with Trinidad and Tobago for international duty, so he's in the starting 11.

Check back to Union Tally later tonight, for a post-game recap. In the meantime, here's my preview of tonight's match.
